Phillips, Fairchild Alert Students to House Scholarship Program
12/28/2009
For the sixth year in a row, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives is offering four-year scholarships to two Pennsylvania high school seniors planning to attend a Pennsylvania college, university or career school, said Reps. Merle Phillips (R-Northumberland/Snyder) and Russ Fairchild (R-Snyder/Union).
The Pennsylvania House of Representatives’ Scholarship Program provides an award that consists of the value of one semester of tuition at a State System of Higher Education school for each of four years. Students may also elect to accept the equivalent cash value of the scholarship to attend any postsecondary eligible educational institution, including nearly all colleges, universities, and career schools in Pennsylvania. Half of each annual award will be paid in the fall semester, and half in the spring semester.
The deadline to apply for the program is March 1, 2010. Applicants are selected based on academic achievement, community service and financial need.
The House of Representatives’ Scholarship Program is administered by the Foundation for Enhancing Communities, which uses the nowU Pennsylvania 529 College Savings Program at the State Treasury Department. It is funded entirely by private individual and corporate donors; no tax or other public funds are used.
